You want to know whether a page is doing its job, and the contact form is not telling you because almost nobody fills it in. A form is a conversation request. Most visitors do not want a conversation, they want to register an opinion and carry on, and a form gives them no way to do that.
Nothing built into Squarespace does this job, so every route means adding something. A hosted embed is the quickest of them: one line, about two minutes, no plugin to maintain and no monthly fee on the free tier.
Your three options
| Route | What it means |
|---|---|
| What Squarespace gives you | The Form block and Squarespace Analytics. One tells you what a visitor typed if they bothered; the other tells you they were there. Neither tells you what they thought. |
| A dedicated app or plugin | A dedicated feedback or session-recording tool. Rich, and usually priced for teams who will look at it every week. |
| A hosted embed | One line of code you paste once. The question, the design and the counting live with the service, so there is nothing to install, update or maintain. This is what VANE it is. |
All three work. The right one depends on whether you need a full survey tool or a single question answered well. If it is the second, the embed is faster to set up and lighter on the page.
The two-minute version
Squarespace
Nothing here needs a developer. If you can add a block to a page, you can do all of it.
- Decide the one thing you actually want to know, and write it as a question someone can answer in a single tap.
- Copy the line the dashboard gives you. It is the same line for every placement. The question, the design and the counting all live with us.
- Open the page in Squarespace, add a Code block where it belongs, paste, and publish.
- Load the page and answer it yourself. The response is in your dashboard immediately, which confirms the paste worked.
Add a Code block where the question belongs. Code blocks need a paid Squarespace plan; that is a Squarespace rule, not ours.
Did it work? A small hex button sits where you pasted the line. Tapping it asks your question, the visitor answers in one tap, and it closes. No form, no fields, no thank-you page.

When not to use us
If you need to reply to the person, you need their email, which means a form. This is for the case where you want the signal, not the conversation.
We would rather tell you that here than have you find out after setting it up. If that describes what you need, the app or plugin route in the table above is the better call.
Common questions
Can I use it instead of the Form block?
For gauging reactions, yes. For collecting enquiries you still want a form, because you need a way to write back.
Where do the answers go?
Your VANE it dashboard, live, with a CSV export. They do not touch Squarespace storage.
Can I ask something different on each page?
Yes. One vane per question, one id per vane, one tally each.
Does it work inside a blog post?
Yes. Add a Code block in the post body exactly where the question belongs.
