Adding a product feedback widget to Shopify

You want to know what shoppers think of a product before they buy it, not only after. Reviews only reach you after a purchase, which means you only ever hear from the people who said yes. The shoppers who hesitated leave no trace, and they are the ones whose objection is worth knowing.

The short answer

Nothing built into Shopify does this job, so every route means adding something. A hosted embed is the quickest of them: one line, about two minutes, no plugin to maintain and no monthly fee on the free tier.

Your three options

RouteWhat it means
What Shopify gives youProduct reviews. Every review app answers what buyers thought afterwards, which never reaches the shoppers who hesitated and left.
A dedicated app or pluginA survey or session-recording tool. Genuinely more powerful for diagnosing a page, and priced and scoped accordingly.
A hosted embedOne line of code you paste once. The question, the design and the counting live with the service, so there is nothing to install, update or maintain. This is what VANE it is.

All three work. The right one depends on whether you need a full survey tool or a single question answered well. If it is the second, the embed is faster to set up and lighter on the page.

The two-minute version

Shopify

Nothing here needs a developer. If you can add a block to a page, you can do all of it.

What you do
  1. Decide the one thing you actually want to know, and write it as a question someone can answer in a single tap.
  2. Copy the line the dashboard gives you. It is the same line for every placement. The question, the design and the counting all live with us.
  3. Open the page in Shopify, add a Custom Liquid section where it belongs, paste, and publish.
  4. Load the page and answer it yourself. The response is in your dashboard immediately, which confirms the paste worked.

Add a Custom Liquid section in the theme editor, or paste into a page in the theme code. No theme fork needed.

What visitors see

Did it work? A small hex button sits where you pasted the line. Tapping it asks your question, the visitor answers in one tap, and it closes. No form, no fields, no thank-you page.

When not to use us

Reviews and this are not substitutes. Reviews are social proof for the next shopper; this is intelligence for you. Most stores that use both keep reviews on the page and put the question elsewhere.

We would rather tell you that here than have you find out after setting it up. If that describes what you need, the app or plugin route in the table above is the better call.

Common questions

Where should it go on a product page?

Below the buy button, not above it. Nothing should sit between a shopper and the thing they came to press.

Will it interfere with my reviews app?

No. It is an independent script and does not touch review markup or its schema.

Can I ask a different question after checkout?

Yes, and the thank-you page is the best place for it, because the shopper has already committed and has nothing to lose by being honest. The Shopify guide shows the exact hook.

Does it affect my product schema or SEO?

No. It adds no review markup and makes no claim about ratings, so there is nothing for Google to misread.
