These are only set after you answer, contain no identifier that follows you from site to site, and are never sent anywhere or used for anything else. They are part of the service you asked for when you answered. If your browser blocks storage, vanes still work; they just ask again.

For customers: what to tell your visitors
You are responsible for your own privacy notice and, where your law requires it, your cookie or consent banner. Most customers can list VANE it’s storage as functional or strictly necessary, because it only exists to make the question work after someone chooses to answer. If your advisers prefer, you can put it behind consent; vanes still work without it.
Wording you can paste into your privacy notice:

When you answer, your answer and the time are sent to VANE it, and your browser stores a small note so you are not asked the same question twice. Answers are not linked to your name.
