This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everyone who uses VANE it, and to everything you ask, show or collect with it. It exists to keep the people answering your vanes safe and to keep the service trustworthy for everyone.
You may not use VANE it to
- Post or allow illegal content: anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, hateful, violent-extremist, or that promotes self-harm, in your questions or on your answer walls.
- Show sexual content, and never anything that sexualises minors.
- Ask for sensitive information. Do not ask Visitors about their health, sex life or sexual orientation, religious or philosophical beliefs, political opinions, trade union membership, racial or ethnic origin, biometric or genetic data, precise location, government ID numbers, financial account or card numbers, or passwords.
- Target children. Do not put vanes on sites or pages directed to children under 13 (under 16 in the EU and UK), or where you know the people answering are children.
- Deceive people. Do not fake social proof or results, present vane results as scientific, independent or representative when they are not, or pay or reward people for answers without saying so.
- Run election polls or voter persuasion. Do not present vanes as polls of how people will vote, or use them to influence an election or referendum. Follow any local rules on publishing poll results.
- Give advice dressed up as results. Do not present vane results as medical, legal or financial advice.
- Spam or harm. No spam, phishing, malware, hidden redirects, or impersonating us or anyone else.
- Abuse the service. No scraping, load testing, probing for weaknesses (report them to us instead, see our Security page), getting around plan limits or rate limits, or manipulating results with bots or repeat-voting tools.
- Resell it or offer it as your own product, unless your plan includes reselling or white-label rights.
Your responsibilities
- Moderate your answer walls. If you run a format that shows Visitors’ text publicly (Fill the Blank, Caption This), keep the word filter on, check what appears, and remove anything that breaks this policy.
- Act on reports. If someone tells you about harmful content in one of your vanes, deal with it promptly.
- Be clear with Visitors. Say who is asking, and explain in your privacy notice that your site uses VANE it (our cookie and storage page has wording you can copy).

What we do if this policy is broken
Depending on how serious it is, we may hide the content, disable the vane, suspend the account, or close it. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. Where people are at risk or the content is clearly unlawful, we act first and tell you afterwards. We may report illegal content to the authorities.
