Custom design

A button drawn for your site, not chosen from a menu.

VANE it comes with 12 button styles: the coral hex on every plan, plus 11 quieter ones on paid plans. For most sites one of them is the right answer. This is for the sites where none of them is: a carefully designed page where anything off the shelf looks borrowed, and where the thing inviting a visitor to react has to belong to the design rather than sit on top of it.

We draw it. You get a button built from your own typography, your palette and the density of your layout, wired to your vane and working, with nothing new to install.

One off fee Quoted after we see the site

Not a subscription, nothing recurring, and you own the result. We quote once we know what the job is, because one button on a landing page and a set that works across a whole template are different pieces of work.

This needs a conversation before it needs your money

We do not sell this with a buy-now button. A button designed without seeing your site is a guess, and a guess that lands badly is worse for you than the standard button you already have. So the first step is a short exchange about what the page needs, and if we do not think a custom button will earn its fee on your site, we will tell you then rather than after you have paid.

How it works

1
You tell us about the site

Send us the URL and the page the vane will live on. We look at your typography, your palette, the density of the layout, and whether the page is quiet or busy. If we do not think a custom button will earn its fee on your site, we say so at this point rather than after.

2
We agree what it needs to do

A short conversation, usually one call or a few emails. Where does it sit, does it need to survive on a photograph, is there a house style it has to obey, does it need to work in one place or across a template. This is the part that decides whether the result is any good.

3
We draw two directions

Two genuine options, not one option and a straw man. Rendered on your actual page so you judge them in place rather than on a swatch.

4
One round of changes, then delivery

You pick a direction and we refine it once. You get the finished button wired to your vane, working, with nothing for you to install beyond the line you already have.

Where we usually start

These are the four directions we have built and know well. They are starting points for a conversation, not a menu, and plenty of jobs end up somewhere none of them predicted.

Folded paper

Warm and tactile, matte, works on light editorial pages. Best for craft, food, interiors and anything with a handmade voice.

Brass and enamel

The most expensive-looking of the four. Holds its shape at small sizes better than the others. Suits luxury, hospitality and finance.

Glazed ceramic

Cream body with a coloured glaze. Handmade rather than manufactured, with an uneven edge that reads as human.

Blown glass

Translucent and jewel like. Beautiful on a light page, and we will tell you honestly if your page is too busy behind it.

Questions

What does it cost?

A one-off fee, quoted after we have seen the site. It is not a subscription and there is nothing recurring. We quote once we know what the job actually is, because a single button on one landing page and a set that has to work across a whole template are different pieces of work.

Why can I not just buy it now?

Because we would be guessing. A button that does not sit inside your design is worse than the standard button, and we would rather turn work down than take a fee for something that makes your page worse.

How long does it take?

Usually a week or two from the first conversation, depending on how quickly we hear back from you on the two directions.

Do I own it?

Yes. The design is yours to use on your site for as long as you like, including if you stop paying for VANE it.

What if I do not like either direction?

Tell us and we will do one more pass. If it still is not right after that, we refund the fee. We would rather lose the money than have our work sitting on a page you resent.

Does it work with all 21 formats?

Yes. The button is the invitation, and the card behind it is the same one every format uses, so a custom button works whichever question you put behind it.

Send us the page

A URL and a sentence about what you want asked is enough to start. We will tell you what we would do and what it would cost.
